Uniper SE has introduced 5 photo voltaic technology tasks with a mixed capability of about 233 megawatts peak (MWp) in Germany, Hungary and the UK.

In Germany, Uniper will assemble a 17 MWp photo voltaic park on the ash landfill of the previous Wilhelmshaven coal-run energy plant. With technology of about 17,000 MW hours a 12 months, the photo voltaic facility can energy as much as 4,500 households, based mostly on a mean family consumption of about 3,300 kilowatt hours (kWh) every year, Uniper stated in a press launch.

The 14-hectare park could have 28,500 photo voltaic modules, which might be put in utilizing specialised anchoring programs designed for the landfill website.

“By using the ash landfill website of the previous Wilhelmshaven coal-fired energy plant, we’re remodeling unused industrial land right into a priceless supply of renewable vitality”, commented Uniper renewables chief govt Jörg Lennertz.

“The PV Park Voslapper Groden, along with the deliberate electrolysis plant, the hydrogen import terminal, and the customer heart, varieties an essential cornerstone of our regional challenge portfolio”, Lennertz added, referring to the Inexperienced Wilhelmshaven challenge. Inexperienced Wilhelmshaven, envisioned to be a European hydrogen interconnection hub, will embrace a 1-gigawatt electrolyzer deliberate to be powered by offshore wind.

Commissioning for the photo voltaic challenge is focused for the primary half of 2026. Development might be carried out by Greening Group.

In Hungary, Uniper will construct two photovoltaic farms, one in Tét with a capability of 90 MWp and one other in Dunaföldvár with a capability of 61 MWp. With a mixed capability of 151 MWp, the crops can provide as much as 92,000 households, based mostly on a mean consumption per family in Hungary of round 2,400 kWh a 12 months, Uniper stated in a separate assertion.

The Tét challenge is deliberate to begin operation 2027. The Dunaföldvár challenge is focused to go surfing 2026.

EXTOR Vitality Zrt. bagged the contract to construct the crops. Maxicontech Kft. and Spie Hungaria Kft. will deal with the grid connection in Tét and Dunaföldvár respectively.

“By harnessing solar energy in Hungary, Uniper shouldn’t be solely supporting the nation’s sustainability targets but in addition serving to to speed up the vitality transition throughout the area”, Uniper stated.

Within the UK, the German utility introduced two new tasks, the Tamworth Photo voltaic Farm with a capability of roughly 44.2 MWp and the 21.33-MWp Totmonslow Photo voltaic Farm. Their collective capability of about 65 MWp can energy about 23,300 properties a 12 months, based mostly on a mean family consumption of round 2,700 kWh, Uniper stated individually.

Uniper goals to attach the tasks, which acquired approval from native planning authorities in 2023, to the grid subsequent 12 months. The Tamworth challenge received a contract for distinction August 2024.

The photo voltaic farms “might be a number of the first renewable vitality tasks to be delivered by Uniper within the UK”, stated Alex Smethers, Uniper head of renewables within the UK.

The corporate stated, “Within the UK, Uniper is exploring alternatives to probably develop renewable tasks in and round its current energy stations with a deal with the event of photo voltaic and onshore wind tasks, which for some tasks might additionally embrace the set up of battery storage services”.

The 5 tasks within the three international locations are a part of Uniper’s plan to take a position EUR 8 billion ($8.39 billion) in progress tasks by the early 2030s.
