Shelf Drilling Secures Work Extensions in Thailand

Shelf Drilling Secures Work Extensions in Thailand

Worldwide shallow water offshore drilling contractor Shelf Drilling Ltd. has secured contract extensions for the Shelf Drilling Chaophraya and Shelf Drilling Krathong jack-up rigs from Chevron Thailand Exploration and Manufacturing Ltd.

Each extensions are for 2 years, Shelf Drilling stated in a media launch. The mixed contract worth for the incremental agency time period is roughly $197 million. The contract extensions will begin within the second half of 2025 in direct continuation of the rigs’ present commitments, the corporate stated.

“These rigs have been custom-built with distinctive offline capabilities for Chevron’s factory-style operations within the Gulf of Thailand”, Greg O’Brien, Shelf Drilling CEO, commented.

Individually, Shelf Drilling not too long ago obtained an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) from the Norwegian Ocean Trade Authority (Havtil) for the Shelf Drilling Barsk jack-up rig. The unit has been cleared to begin operations within the coming weeks below a contract with Equinor.

“As we strategy contract graduation within the coming weeks, our focus is to finish our buyer’s remaining rig acceptance course of and begin operations in a protected and environment friendly method”, O’Brian stated.

The rig initially secured work from Equinor within the Gudrun area within the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Nonetheless, in June, Shelf Drilling obtained a discover from Havtil that its utility for an AoC for the Shelf Drilling Barsk jack-up rig had not been accepted, which delayed its begin of operations for Equinor.
