Russian officers and enterprise executives have held talks about merging the nation’s greatest oil firms right into a single producer, the Wall Road Journal reported.

Underneath one potential plan, state-backed Rosneft PJSC would take over Gazprom Neft and Lukoil PJSC, the newspaper mentioned, citing unidentified folks aware of the discussions. The talks, which have taken place over the previous few months, aren’t assured to lead to a deal, and plans may change, the folks mentioned.

Lukoil and Gazprom Neft didn’t instantly reply to emails despatched outdoors of normal enterprise hours. Rosneft’s press service doesn’t settle for requests over the weekend.

A Rosneft spokesman instructed the WSJ that the reporting was false based on the data obtainable to him, and mentioned in an e-mail to the paper that the article “could also be aimed toward creating aggressive market benefits within the pursuits of different market members.”

A Lukoil spokesman mentioned neither the corporate nor its shareholders have been engaged in merger negotiations, whereas spokesmen for Gazprom Neft and Gazprom PJSC didn’t reply to requests for remark, based on the WSJ.

A Kremlin spokesperson instructed the paper he had no data of a deal.

If such a deal was reached, the corporate could be the world’s largest crude producer after Saudi Aramco, based on the report.
