Petronas Brings SMJ Power Onboard Its Third FLNG Undertaking

Malaysia’s Petroliam Nasional Bhd. (Petronas), by means of its subsidiary Petronas LNG Sdn. Bhd. (PLSB), has signed a heads of settlement (HoA) with SMJ Power Sdn. Bhd. that formalizes the phrases for SMJ Power’s 25 % fairness participation in PFLNG 3 Sdn. Bhd.

Petronas mentioned in a media launch the brand new settlement is a “vital step ahead” in its efforts to strengthen its partnership with Sabah’s state authorities. Dionysia Aloysius Kibat, SMJ Power CEO, and Shamsairi M Ibrahim, PLSB CEO, signed the settlement.

PFLNG 3 is the mission firm tasked with the upcoming shore-based floating liquefied pure fuel (LNG) facility within the Sipitang Oil and Fuel Industrial Park (SOGIP) in Sabah.

The PFLNG 3 is Petronas’ third FLNG facility. In line with the corporate, it’s the first nearshore FLNG facility on this planet. The power will produce as much as 2 million tonnes of LNG each year and is scheduled to start out manufacturing in 2027.

The engineering, procurement and development contracts have gone to JGC Holdings Corp. and Samsung Heavy Industries.

The proposed fairness acquisition shall be applied by way of definitive agreements to be finalized following the HoA, Petronas mentioned.

Earlier this month, Petronas formalized a number of key agreements with the state of Sabah by means of its unit, Malaysia Petroleum Administration. These offers are a part of the Business Collaboration Settlement that Petronas signed with the state authorities in 2021. The collaboration settlement goals for a long-term and structured strategy to securing a dependable fuel provide for the state’s increasing home demand, whereas enabling sustainable industrial progress, in line with Petronas.

Each Petronas and SMJ Power are a part of the duty power that developed the Sabah Fuel Technique.
