SBM Offshore NV has secured a contract from Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras) to review the appliance of carbon seize modules on floating manufacturing storage and offloading (FPSO) models. The carbon seize modules could be put in on future FPSOs deployed in Petrobras fields.

In a media launch, SBM Offshore stated the module design is predicated on an engineering and design research it carried out with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. (MHI) and certified by DNV. The design combines MHI’s proprietary carbon dioxide (CO2) seize know-how and SBM Offshore’s Fast4ward rules.

SBM Offshore is growing a compact, modular carbon seize answer designed to considerably scale back emissions from oil and gasoline manufacturing on FPSOs, as a part of its emissionZERO program. The research for Petrobras encompasses the design and industrial evaluation of numerous carbon seize system configurations for future FPSOs deployed in Petrobras fields, contemplating various turbine sorts and equipment setups, gasoline circulate charges and put in gasoline turbine energy, and CO2 concentrations and gasoline compositions, SBM Offshore stated.

“Via this research, we can advance the carbon seize module design collectively with our companion MHI for CO2 discount on future FPSOs”, Olivier Icyk, Chief Enterprise Officer at SBM Offshore, stated.

Earlier SBM Offshore made an preliminary fairness funding in Ocean-Energy AS, following a memorandum of understanding signed in June 2024. This funding grants SBM Offshore a minority possession stake in Ocean-Energy and a seat on its Board of Administrators.

SBM Offshore stated this is a chance to discover making use of its carbon seize experience within the energy technology market, using a available answer to facilitate low-carbon electrical energy manufacturing.
