The state of Michigan has obtained $5.87 million in funding from the Division of the Inside (DOI) to proceed work plugging, reclaiming, and restoring orphaned oil and gasoline wells.
That is a part of a $4.7 billion supplied by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Legislation for the DOI to plug orphaned wells, the division stated in a information launch.
“In August 2022, the Inside Division awarded $560 million in preliminary grant funding to 24 states, together with $25 million to Michigan, to start work plugging and cleansing up orphaned wells nationwide”, the DOI recalled.
Since August 2022, over 7,000 wells have been plugged throughout the states, 200 of which had been in Michigan. This course of diminished roughly 11.530 metric tons of potential methane emissions, in line with the DOI.
