Naftna Industrija Srbije d.d., a refiner managed by Russia’s Gazprom PJSC, gained one other reprieve on US sanctions, which have been postponed till June, President Aleksandar Vucic stated on Saturday.

“Serbia managed to win one other delay in sanctions towards NIS, this time for 2 months, till June 27,” Vucic stated in an Instagram submit. “Because of our American companions for understanding the place of Serbia.” 

The US Treasury’s Workplace of International Belongings Management in January imposed sanctions on the corporate, often called NIS, in certainly one of its most aggressive strikes but towards Russia’s oil trade.

The most recent deferral marks the third time sanctions have been postponed, following pleas by Vucic. The primary two delays have been for 30 days every.

NIS’s principal refinery in Pancevo, simply east of Belgrade, has relied on crude imports by way of a pipeline in neighboring Croatia. Anticipating that the ever-tightening sanctions could render the pipe unusable for NIS, Serbia has made plans to hyperlink to crude provides from the Druzhba pipeline by way of Hungary.
