ExxonMobil Secures Sixth CO2 Buyer in Calpine

Exxon Mobil Company has signed a cope with Calpine Company to move and completely retailer as much as 2 million metric tons each year (MTA) of carbon dioxide (CO2) from Calpine’s Baytown Power Heart, a cogeneration facility close to Houston.

ExxonMobil mentioned in a media launch that the Baytown Power Heart is a part of Calpine’s Baytown Carbon Seize and Storage (CCS) mission, which is designed to seize CO2 emissions and supply a relentless provide of low-carbon electrical energy to Texas clients.

This settlement makes Calpine the sixth CCS buyer of ExxonMobil, bringing the latter’s complete quantity of CO2 below contract to about 16 MTA, ExxonMobil mentioned. The CO2 from Calpine’s facility will tie into ExxonMobil’s CO2 pipeline system, the most important on the planet, which is strategically situated alongside the U.S. Gulf Coast and helps enhanced oil restoration in addition to everlasting CO2 sequestration, in line with ExxonMobil.

Calpine’s Baytown CCS Mission goals to generate roughly 500 megawatts of low-carbon electrical energy, adequate to produce energy to over 500,000 households and steam for industrial functions, ExxonMobil mentioned. Engineering, allowing, and extra growth efforts are in progress.
