The Trump administration has launched an investigation into imported wind generators and elements, a possible precursor to including extra tariffs on the clean-energy parts.

The US Commerce Division began a nationwide safety probe on Aug. 13 into whether or not wind power imports hurt nationwide safety and undermine home manufacturing, in response to a discover posted by the company Thursday. 

Earlier this week, the company stated it was together with wind generators and associated elements among the many merchandise going through 50 p.c metal and aluminum tariffs.

Thursday’s announcement provides to the record of industries going through potential tariffs below Part 232 of the Commerce Enlargement Act, which permits the president to control imports which can be deemed to threaten nationwide safety. 

The president has stated that duties on pharmaceutical and semiconductor imports could possibly be rolled out within the coming weeks. Different industries below investigation embrace business plane, essential minerals and lumber. 

Trump has already introduced duties on metal, aluminum, copper and vehicles.
