Calgary-based oil big Cenovus might be heading for a tough political experience in Canada after shortlisting shipyards in Europe to revamp its SeaRose floating manufacturing, storage and offloading vessel, with little FPSO-related work dealt with in Newfoundland & Labrador.
Provincial trades unions and politicians are already fulminating about Suncor Power revamping its Terra Nova FPSO at Navantia shipyard in Spain, a contract paid for by Canadian taxpayers, however which was hit by main value and schedule overruns, with little or no work undertaken in Newfoundland.
