Britain’s Nationwide Grid has awarded about EUR 24.6 billion ($26.8 billion) value of contracts for the availability of converter programs and round EUR 21.3 billion ($23.21 billion) for cable provide contracts.

Totaling about $50 billion, the contracts are a part of a EUR 59 billion plan that Nationwide Grid, a transmission and distribution community operator in England and Wales, launched 2023 to type long-term contractual relationships for present and future high-voltage direct present (HVDC) tasks.

The chosen converter system suppliers are the US’ GE Vernova Inc., Switzerland’s Hitachi Power Ltd., Japan’s Mitsubishi Electrical Corp. and Germany’s Siemens Power AG, in line with a web based assertion by Nationwide Grid.

The cable suppliers are Belgium’s Hellenic & Jan De Nul Consortium, South Korea’s LS Cable & System Ltd. and Taihan Cable & Answer Co. Ltd, Denmark’s NKT A/S, Italy’s Prysmian Group and Japan’s Sumitomo Electrical Industries Ltd.

The contracts final 5 years with a possible three-year extension.

The contracts will serve the operator’s Nice Grid Improve, which it says is its greatest overhaul “in generations”. Comprising 17 main infrastructure tasks, the improve will allow Nationwide Grid to attach clear power tasks with finish customers.

“Suppliers on the framework will assist the supply of early tasks together with Jap Inexperienced Hyperlink 4, Sealink, Lionlink and different tasks of an analogous dimension and nature”, Nationwide Grid stated.

Jap Inexperienced Hyperlink (EGL) 4 is deliberate to attach England and Scotland. The proposed EGL 3 and 4 would transport sufficient clear power from Scotland for as much as 4 million houses within the Midlands and the South of England, in line with Nationwide Grid.

The proposed Sea Hyperlink is a 2-gigawatt (GW) cable between the English counties of Suffolk and Kent, stretching about 138 kilometers (85.75 miles) principally offshore, in line with Nationwide Grid.

LionLink is proposed to attach Britain and the Netherlands by way of subsea cables. The 1.8-GW interconnector will carry electrical energy from a Dutch offshore wind farm to provide about 2.5 million houses, in line with Nationwide Grid.

“This framework permits us to harness Nationwide Grid’s scale to entry world provide chains, drive efficiencies, foster modern applied sciences and contribute to the UK’s financial prosperity”, commented Carl Trowell, president of strategic infrastructure at Nationwide Grid, referring to the HVDC contracting framework.

Nationwide Grid Ventures president Ben Wilson stated, “Nationwide Grid is already the biggest operator of subsea energy cables on the planet, the vast majority of which we delivered within the final six years”.

“World record-breaking websites like Viking Hyperlink and pioneering tasks like LionLink want an bold method for each side of their supply, together with with our suppliers”, Wilson added.
