Aker BP ASA and its companions have found oil close to the Skarv discipline within the Norwegian Sea, with preliminary estimated recoverable volumes of 3-7 million barrels of oil equal in one of many targets.

The invention consisted of wells 6507/5-13 S and 6507/5-13 A. The wells have been drilled six kilometers (3.73 miles) southwest of the Skarv floating manufacturing, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel in manufacturing license 212, based on the Norwegian Offshore Directorate. The license is a part of the Aker BP-operated Skarv Unit space.

Nicely 6507/5-13 S aimed to show petroleum in reservoir rocks within the Fangst and Båt teams. “The properly encountered a 14-meter oil column within the Garn Formation in 43 meters of sandstone with reasonable reservoir high quality”, the upstream regulator stated in a press launch. “The oil/water contact was encountered at 3702 meters under sea stage. The opposite formations within the Fangst and Båt teams have been aquiferous.

“Nicely 6507/5-13 S encountered hydrocarbons from the Early Cretaceous (Apt/Alba) in a number of sandstone layers with reasonable reservoir high quality. The oil/water contact was estimated at 3414 meters under sea stage”.

Preliminary calculations for the Garn Formation discovery confirmed 0.48-1.11 million normal cubic meters (MMscm) of recoverable oil equal. “This corresponds to 3-7 million barrels of recoverable o.e.”, the Directorate stated.

In the meantime the Early Cretaceous discovery is estimated to have 0.16-0.32 MMscm of recoverable oil equal. “This corresponds to 1-2 million barrels of recoverable o.e.”, the Directorate stated.

Nicely 6507/5-13 A aimed to delineate the Early Cretaceous discovery. “The properly proved a reservoir of reasonable high quality”, the Directorate reported. “The reservoir was saturated with water”.

The licensees will consider tying again the Garn Formation discovery to the Skarv FPSO, based on the company.

The wells, the ninth and tenth exploration wells drilled in manufacturing license 212, have been completely plugged. Drilling was performed by Saipem SpA’s Scarabeo 8 exploration rig.

Fornebu, Norway-based Aker BP operates manufacturing license 212 with a 30 % stake. Majority state-owned Equinor ASA additionally holds 30 %. London-based Harbour Vitality PLC owns 25 %. Poland’s primarily state-owned ORLEN SA has the remaining 15 %.

Within the Skarv Unit space Aker BP is operator with a 23.84 % possession. Equinor owns 36.17 %, Harbour Vitality 28.08 % and ORLEN 11.92 %.
