Norwegian vitality main Equinor ASA has contracted Island Drilling Firm AS to plug wells on Equinor-operated fields on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS). Equinor stated in a media launch the rig firm will deploy the Island Innovator to serve the three-year contract.

Equinor added that oil service corporations Archer Oiltools and Baker Hughes Norge have gained framework agreements for plugging providers.

Island Innovator is a cellular rig designed for effectively plugging, set to begin operation for Equinor in early 2026. The contract, valued at roughly $330 million, contains 5 one-year choices and covers mobilization, deliberate upgrades, and built-in drilling providers, Equinor stated.

“We are going to drill 600 improved oil restoration wells and about 250 exploration wells to take care of our manufacturing on the NCS in the direction of 2035.
