The state-owned firm has come beneath scrutiny lately for its poor security document, which together with a 2021 offshore platform accident that killed 5, and quite a few fires at its community of oil refineries. Pemex in 2022 acquired the Deer Park plant, which had been a three way partnership between the state oil firm and Shell Plc.

The refinery shut not less than three models following the leak, Padilla mentioned. Amongst them have been a coker that processes residual oil and a hydrotreater that removes sulfur from refined merchandise.
